Outreach Programs

Beginning in the spring of 2024, the Rossmoor Pickleball Club created a Community Outreach Committee.  The purpose of the committee is to provide club members an opportunity to give back to the community.  The Community Outreach Committee annually will determine various activities that the club will participate in.  Some of the events planned include teaching Pickleball at underserved schools and youth in foster care, sorting food at the Food Bank of Contra Costa County, working with Habitat for Humanity and book donations for children’s literacy.  If you are interested in getting involved with any of these activities, you can reach out to Natalee Fairbanks at nattie.brattie@gmail.com.  Below is a summary of some of the opportunities that will be available in 2024.

RPC has partnered with the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano in sorting and boxing food donations.   The Food Bank serves approximately 465,000 people (1 in 4 residents), providing 3,500,000 meals monthly.   We have scheduled the following dates in 2014:  March 19, June 19, September 3 and November 19.  If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Vicki Anderle at vicki.anderle@gmail.com.

RPC will be working with Youth Homes (foster care) to teach Pickleball to a group of youngsters on September 19th at Willow Pass Community Park in Concord.  We will need volunteers to help teach kids in foster care the art of Pickleball as well as provide refreshments for the event.  For information and sign-ups please contact Linda Spiegelman 925-322-8470 or email her at morrie292@sbcglobal.net.

RPC is partnering with Habitat for Humanity at Esperanza Place in Walnut Creek for a volunteer build day.  Esperanza is Spanish for hope, and hope is what Habitat Volunteers are building at the end of the day. We are working on securing work dates in the summer for RPC members to support Habitat's first zero net energy development, offering affordable green homes to 42 families.  If you are interested,  please contact Cynthia Davis at cldavis56@gmail.com to be placed on the list.

RPC has partnered with El Dorado Middle School in Concord.  Members are teaching pickleball to sixth, seventh and eighth grade students at the middle school.  El Dorado Middle School is a Chapter 1 school due to its low-income families.  We are going to the middle school every Thursday to teach students pickleball. If you are interested in volunteering please contact Danny Wong at dwonga.wong@gmail.com to get more information.
