Rossmoor Pickleball Club Community Outreach – Giving Back in 2026

In Spring 2024, the Rossmoor Pickleball Club (RPC) established a Community Outreach Committee to give members meaningful ways to contribute to the broader community. Each year, the committee selects a variety of volunteer activities and events for club participation.  If you're interested in any of these opportunities, please contact the listed coordinator for more details or to sign up.

RPC has partnered with the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano in sorting and boxing food donations.   The Food Bank services an average of 79,000 households per month, distributing more than 2.7 million meals on a monthly basis.   The following dates are scheduled in 2026:  January 20, March 17, May 26, July 21 and September 15.  The date in November has not yet been determined.   If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Vicki Anderle at vicki.anderle@gmail.com

Youth Homes (Foster Care Pickleball Program) In September 2026, RPC will teach pickleball to youngsters in foster care at Willow Pass Community Park in Concord. Volunteers are needed to instruct the kids and provide refreshments. We're also exploring a one-time donation drive in Rossmoor for clothing and housewares to benefit Youth Homes. Contact: Linda Spiegelman at morrie292@sbcglobal.net

Habitat for Humanity RPC is supporting Habitat in two ways:

  1. Esperanza Place (Walnut Creek) – Habitat’s first zero-net-energy development, providing affordable green homes to 42 families. ("Esperanza" means "hope" in Spanish—and that's what volunteers help build!) Half of the 21 homes are complete, with build days resuming in 2026. There is a tentative build day scheduled for September 18.  Habitat can accommodate up to 14 volunteers per shift. Contact: Cynthia Davis at cldavis56@gmail.com

  2. Habitat ReStore (Concord) – This retail warehouse accepts donations of new/gently used building materials, furniture, appliances, and home accessories, then sells them affordably to the public. Volunteer tasks include organizing the store, managing inventory, cleaning, unloading donations, and assisting customers. Contact: Cynthia Davis at cldavis56@gmail.com to join the volunteer list.

Middle School Pickleball Instruction RPC is partnering with two Title 1 middle schools (serving many low-income families):

  • Riverview Middle School (Bay Point)

  • El Dorado Middle School (Concord)

Club members will teach pickleball to 6th–8th graders once a week for six weeks. One session is planned from September-November for 2026:

Basic training will be provided to volunteers as needed. Contact: Danny Wong at dwonga.wong@gmail.com

Family Pickleball Days Bring your kids and grandkids for fun, age- and skill-appropriate pickleball play! Families should bring a snack to share; RPC provides instruction. Scheduled dates:

  • May 17, 2026

  • October 25, 2026

To volunteer or register grandkids, contact Natalee Fairbanks at nattie.brattie@gmail.com.

These activities offer great ways to combine our love of pickleball with community service. We hope to see many RPC members get involved in 2026!
